Merge

It was great to travel down to the Merge conference this past weekend. The trip itself was quite an ordeal. There was a travel advisory on the Coquihalla Hwy, and a rock slide closed down the Trans Canada! We ended up taking the Coq, but taking it VERY easy! It was snowing like crazy at the Toll Booth! It's fun to see snow, but driving in it - that's a different story!

One of the most most impacting parts of the conference was Jeremy Postal's truth talk on the "Big Sexy Lie". Basically it's the lie that we can do life on our own. The truth is that we were never meant to live life solo. We're meant to be in community, and in relationships - it's what we were created to be!

Jeremy talked about a concept called "Eclectic Mentoring", which was facinating. It's about an attitude that is eager to learn from everyone that's around you. From leaders that you look up to, to friends, and to those who look up to for as an example. Eclectic in the the sense of learning from a diversity of sources. Mentoring in the sense of learning a definable art or skill.

It was great to catch a glimpse into Jeremy's heart, and to leave there with lots to ponder. One of the goals I left there was to engage in meanful conversation whenever I can. So much of what I talk about is soo "small talk", and is very unfulfilling. I don't want to spend my life like that.

Whoa.......

Just reading through bits of your blog; glad we can be apart of one another's learning.

Really this whole idea of eclectic mentoring or eclectic learning sprang out of the interworld; I am becoming more and more convinced that the amount of blogs that are attributing to this huge learning community that we now have immediate 24/7 access to is going to prove more influential to Christ-centered spirituality then Luther's Ninety-Five Theses on the Wittenberg Church door.

Maybe...
